SLM – Laser Melting for Dental Technology

What is SLM suitable for?

In comparison to SLS (Selective Laser Sintering), which is suitable for alloys, plastics, and binders, the SLM process is also capable of processing pure metals.

SLM process in dental technology

Selective laser melting (SLM) is considered an alternative to subtractive processes such as casting and milling. It is an additive manufacturing method that is particularly used in dental technology for undercuts and complex geometries.

For these indications, the SLM process is suitable:

  • Telescopic primary crowns
  • Frameworks for partial and full veneers, full cast crowns
  • Model casting constructions
  • Secondary constructions
  • Bridges
  • Retention/palatal plates
  • Orthodontic devices
  • Grinding caps
  • Components for denture extensions

For the manufacturing of the structure, the laser deposits layers of metal powder on top of each other and joins the material using a special exposure strategy to create a homogeneous structure.

Materials used

At CADmill, we exclusively use materials from German manufacturers that comply with the applicable medical and quality requirements. From our materials portfolio, the following substances are suitable for processing using the SLM method:

  • CoCr alloy
  • Titanium

Our SLM process:
the latest technology

The SLM parts produced using our laser melting process feature high component density and surface quality. This provides an excellent alternative to casting techniques, and we are pleased to offer personalized advice on the most suitable method for your project.
